Hey my bloggies! long time no post! I have had the craziest year ever! So many things have happened but I promise that I will update more since it is summer! Recently I have been obsessed with this singer called Marina and the Diamonds. She is like lady gaga, florence and the machine, janelle monae, lily allen, and kate nash all rolled in to one which equals my favorite thing ever! Her music is poppy, effervescent, but it also has some dark undertones. Her lyrics are blatant remarks on society and what the "american dream" is. And since this past week it was july 4th what a better time to bring up America and what the "american dream" is. People have different idea of what the american dream is. In the fifties and earlier, when people started immigrating to the United States, the idea of an american dream was a life where there was stability financially, family life was promoted, and success in the home and workplace was desired. Now, it is all about being incredibly wealthy and flaunting your wealth and success, trying to obtain fame, and keeping and maintaing beauty and youth. People's morals and goals today are a bit skewed today, in my opinion. Anywho I hope you enjoyed your Fourth of July my golden children!

Cars: Weapons or Works of Art?

I have been studying to get my permit for a long time! But on March 2nd I will get my learner's permit! Which is really exciting because I cannot wait to get more freedom and go where I want when I want to. I know that I will be a responsible driver and I know that being a good driver is very crucial to be safe on the road. So wish me luck!

And before I go to the pretty pictures of girls in cars I would like to touch on a more serious topic. Friday at 7:20 in the morning a 13 year old girl was crossing the street to get to her school bus and she was hit by a car and then run over by another. I know you hear about all these stories on the news or on the internet but this girl was my sister's friend and since all the schools in the area are really close-knitted it hit my school, the people in my school, and just the Los Angeles school district in general, very hard. She will not be forgotten and her death is a warning and a reminder to us all that while cars are the outcome of brilliant technology to transport us anywhere! They are also weapons, when not used properly could endanger or end somebody's life.

Can I Get Snow with those Palm Trees?

Since I've moved to California the seasons have been all out of whack! And while I definitely do not like the freezing rain and sleet and the low temperatures for the majority of the year (that i had in Chicago) I really have a problem with dressing for winter, in California, in January, when it is 65 or 70 degrees! I love dressing for winter! I love fur, fun knits, sweaters, scarfs, and tights, how do I wear those things with the heat? I think I am having the same problem as Lara Stone in this editorial for W magazine.

I have a thing for historical movies, especially the ones that tell the stories of past women! I love learning about the women who shaped our culture and in a mostly male society stood out as a founding figure in history. Women who have power and take control, or women who are the center of attention, and regardless of all the criticism they receive, still stand tall and are confident, amaze me! The women I really look up to are the ones who are brave enough to put themselves out there and do what they love and say what they believe in. Queen Victoria and Marie Antoinette are two women who really stand out to me. Queen Victoria really was the first women ruler who made a significant difference in Britain, she expanded her empire and industrialized England, creating a gold era of peace and prosperity. She kept the country war-free and made alliances with powerful european countries to keep the peace everywhere! Marie Antoinette, not so much, but she did have an amazing sense of style and although a little indulgent and not very intelligent she did have a knack for throwing some amazing parties! Two movies that I love are Marie Antoinette directed by Sophia Coppola (my favorite director who has an amazing eye for detail and pulls you in to a world of elaborate, nostalgia infused desire) and a recent movie that came out called The Young Victoria with Emily Blunt in it. Now Young Victoria is amazing and it doesn't really focus on the historical part of her life, but the romance between her and prince albert (which is amazing)! Anywho this post is not only about women who are powerful and confident but I also want to include myself in this post! It took a lot of courage on my behalf to start this blog. It's hard putting something up that you love, that is the baby of your imagination, desire, sweat, tears (from the endless hours of searching online for these photos), and sheer passion for editorials and just the fashion world in general. I am sorry i couldn't phrase that better, it sounds really cheesy! But i love it and it took me a year and 4,792 collected photos to finally create this blog! So even though these women were very controversial coming in to power, in the long run the support they received improved their performance (although i cannot say that about marie antoinette)! So what I am trying to say is that I need your support! So if you can subscribe or just read or comment on my posts and tell me what's up that would mean the world to me! On a vacation you have a duty................to relax. I was actually lucky enough to be flown to Hawaii for the holidays with my family. Sadly I had some other duties to do there such as study for my california permit, write essays, and read Wuthering Heights for Honors English. Thankfully I managed to to do everything on my list that leads to total relaxation and then I able to do my tasks more efficiently. Even though I really didn't want to do them at all. Homework on vacation makes me gag! Ok so here are the must-do's for a holiday in the sun! I think the thing I mostly needed was sleep!

This is probably what my hair looked like in the sun before I got it highlighted and the flower behind her ear is so adorable. I think Hawaii is probably the best smelling place on earth because of all the flowers and trees and it rains all the time!

Ok the first thing you need to do when you enter a tropical beach land on a vacation is to rush to the water to dip your toes in to the ocean. Not only is it refreshing but the sand and the rocks will gently massage your feet! Plus wearing those floaty dresses is a great item to pack for the trip because it will keep you from getting too hot in the day and it will flatter any figure especially if you're pigging out on the hotel's speciality fruit smoothies (cough cough me).

Even if its overcast outside don't hole up in the hotel room, go to the beach when it may be less crowded plus its especially good for pale skinned people like me because then we wont get as burned as we would on the beach normally! But still remember to put on sunscreen because you could still get burned. Hmmmmmmm isn't that annoying?

Playing games in the waves is ALWAYS my favorite thing to do.

Spa treatments are probably my favorite thing to do! Massages are probably the best thing to do to get relaxed and facials will rejuvenate your skin. And when you go back to the workplace or school everybody will be staring at your glowing, healthy face. Since I went to Maui and luckily the hotel that was next to mine had a Kate Somerville Spa!!! I definitely had the best facial of my life at that spa!

Ok so here are a few helpful tips to get your body and mind in the relaxation mode! Hope you had fun on your holiday! xoxo

Airport Aversion

So I have a little bone to pick with the airports. Their security is so annoying! Ok, I know its for everybody's safety but seriously when I am going through the scanner and i have to take off my shoes, my jacket, my belt, and my jewelry, put my cellphone and laptop in separate containers, and make sure that all of my toiletries are less than 3.2 fluid ounces! Its exhausting I have to unpack and repack everything and pile everything on top of me so I don't make the other 100 people in line after me wait I'm seriously sick of it! And god forbid if you have fluids over 3.2 fluid ounces or you forgot to take out your tweezers from your toiletry bag! Now you have to go through another whole search! I am not even going to get in to that! Our security will probably evolve to be so critical that we'll have to do strip searches if we have an ounce of metal on us! Sorry I just needed to rant about that for a while but seriously I don't think a 15 (almost 16!) girl is going to throw her life away and many others by carrying a bomb in to an airport! And what is even more ridiculous is that they even have the audacity to check my 9 year old sister because she accidentally packed scissors! THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE AHHHHH! ok so here is an editorial that really glams up the whole airport ordeal. What is your worst airport experience?

Strawberry Shortcake

Update: So some people may call me a strawberry blonde and I started to hate the blonde part. I like being red! So yesterday I went to Jeffrey-Kara salon and made my hair a bit more strawberry! I used this model in this Dazed and Confused editorial as an example for the hair color that I want. What do you think?

Hey guys! I know I haven't updated in a while but I'm telling the truth when I say that I have had no time! Sorry this is way overdue, but I don't think scary ever goes out of style. This would have been the Halloween spread but as you can see it is December so we'll just put it at "that bump in the night may not be Santa Claus." Anyway enjoy the Death in December theme! xoxo

I love how this little pyro-model is wearing this really hardcore bejeweled hat and then has on this little dainty dress. Its nice to mix it up now and then, and for this season I would encourage you to bring out the big jewels and wear it with someone simple and elegant it will really make a statement.

Now in this spread there will be a lot of fishnet material or threadbare knits and this look became haute when Rodarte did it in 2008. Besides from being total grunge it kind of gives of this "fairytale princess who was chases by a dragon" look to it because the more string leggings and clothing are made from this fuzzy, knit material.

Dora Mojzes is a young Hungarian designer who just graduated from the University of Art and Design Department of Textile in June 2008. Her aim is to create the image of a 21st century woman. A woman who in her opinion has high standards, is open and self-confident, one who is successful in work and can be feminine. Mojzes' aim is to create garments reflecting the style, the attitude, and the emotions of the individual. The latex and architectural figure of these clothes seem very grunge but they seem to have very feminine silhouettes. I could imagine Lady GaGa wearing one of these pieces.

This model's appearance looks very ghostly due to her fluorescent skin, her eyes ringed in a smoky blue and her lips the faintest hint of pink. Her hair is a little bit bedraggled and she is wearing sheer clothes with soft hemlines.

This is an incredibly interesting editorial by Fantasticsmag called "Playing Dead." I love the use of the patterned items paired with coral or sage heels and the different textiles used.

This is an editorial from the magazine Dazed and Confused called Transformer. All the clothing used in this shoot is incredibly unique and whimsical.

This bra is definitely inspired by Madonna! Plus I love how it is in black latex!

Manish Arora is a famous designer that created this incredibly well crafted carousel dress. He started out in India and has, in recent years has collaborated with Keiichi Tanaami, a japanese artist, Walt Disney, and Subodh Gupta, an indian contemporary artist. Manish has also recently showcased his Autumn/Winter 08-09 line at Paris Fashion Week. I adore this dress!

This is some of Michael Clough's photography where his model sports some feathery eye fringe. So emphasizing the eyes is incredibly alluring plus it adds a touch of mystery behind those thick lashes. With this particular type of lashes I think it would look great in one of Rodarte's collection. Since some of their collections is inspired by horror films I think, paired with one of their mohair and wool tattered sweaters plus these super long lashes would give the model a "lost doll" look and give the model a more haunting gaze.

Plus I love the sequined tops that the model is wearing. Tip: I see them all the time at Flea Markets! they are really fun to throw on if your going to a party or clubbing, they really add something special to an outfit.

September Issue: Geeks R Us

Hey Everybody! Recently, I went to see the movie The September Issue, which is about Vogue and the process it goes to, to publish its largest issue of the year. Then I got the idea that I would post a September issue to my blog, which would probably be the largest post of September about one of my favorite subjects: Nerds. I have so many pictures of them and pictures of fashion that are influenced by them it is crazy!!! I adore them! So I hope you enjoy this post!!!

Geek Love is one of my favorite articles from Nylon, published in April 2009 in the special anniversary issue! It is written by Peaches Geldof and how she is always attracted to the nerdy type guys. My favorite quote from the article goes "In the end, most of us just seem to want someone who can be self-depreciating-someone who knows his shit and isn't hiding behind a cliched macho front. Nerds are the lovable mavericks of an overbearingly masculine society that is driven by old-fashioned ideals. These Dungeon & Dragons-loving, Einstein-quoting, chunky spectacles-wearing guys are the true catches."

Also Nylon put this book on their reading list which i love because it is one of those manuels that tells you what to do. here is there Descriptions about Carrie Tucker's book I Love Geeks. "After years of dating nerdy boys, Tucker realized that while they’re often loyal and supportive boyfriends, they’re not as easy to figure out as she thought. Hence I Love Geeks, a handbook to understanding your dorky (but hot!) crushes. She dissects the various subspecies, from video gamers to Comic-Con attendees to sports obsessors, explaining their interests and suggesting ways you can connect.  You’ll either find it incredibly enlightening or incredibly funny (the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter are spot-on), but no matter your reaction, you’ll want to read it front to back ."

What is a Geek without his anime obsession! Designer Lucien Pellat Finet teamed up with the Cupo artist Mister to create this unique cashmere line clad with anime images.Since then the two have collaborated and this is what Nylon magazine has to say "You might say that Lucien Pellat Finet did for cashmere what Damien Hirst did for art - they took banal, shocking images like cracked skulls and pot leaves, and turned them into high fashion. Now they’ve collaborated with the Cupo artist Mister, whose images of animé Lolitas and schoolboys explore the darker side of sex, violence, and childhood."

Agyness Dean becomes the new face of the cult brazilian brand, Melissa Shoes. Melissa Shoes also launched their first magazine called Plastic Dreams which has an editorial of Agyness in some crazy outfits, like the one below. I love how Agyness is wearing an ethnic headband with some crazy tie dyed clothing, and the craziest piece is the huge necklcae made out of technicolor cubes that seem to have come from a board game! how perfectly avant-nerd! a necklace made out of a board game!

The Jacqueline Sanchez designed Forever Young Ring Number 1 Diamond Ring is a nice little novelty gift. A mix between a geeks favorite childhood plaything and girl's best friend. The lego diamond ring is probably one of my favorite jewelry pieces out there! It makes sense to integrate the two objects, creating a geeky romantic hybrid

And of course if there is a ring than there has to be a necklace to match!!! Emiko Oye designs her magnificent jewelry out of legos too!!! These are necklaces have been recycled and they are historically referenced jewelry! You can even take them apart to create a brooch or a bracelet. This red, orange, white, and black lego necklace is called the Princess Margherita, from My First Royal Jewels Jewellery Collection 2007, and this is Emiko Oye's statement about the piece, "This neckpiece is a modern-day reinterpretation of The Royal emerald, pearl and diamond necklace of Queen Margherita, consort of King Umberto I of Italy during the 1870s. For her love of jewelry and pearls, she was known as "The Queen of Pearls," the necklace being part of her dowry, originally in the dowry of her mother, Elizabeth of Saxony, the daughter of King John of Saxony. A nerdy 70's Editorial that emphasizes the huge glasses of the day and the nerdy girl chic that went along with it!

Yokoo is the Japanese designer behind these magnificent knitted, chain scarves! Yokoo who models the scarves herself is a bit nerdy chic with her adorable glasses and bowl-cut bob! She is an Atlanta-based designer who has debuted her line on Etsy! Get them before the crisp winds of Autumn start knocking at your door at etsy.com!

This amazing pink knitted gown is by Jemma Sykes! This all wool pink confection may just be the snazziest thing a nerd could wear to the ball to find her geek prince!!! It looks so comfy and I wish i had it in my closet! The dress is called “The Elizabeth” and is entirely hand-knitted in 100% by Jemma Sykes certified organic wool. It was created for ethical fashion label Butcher Couture and the images in the post are from the album artwork of Maria Mena- Cause and Effect. It was displayed at Harrods until the dress was auctioned off at a breast cancer charity event.

This Spring/Summer collection is by Junko Shimada which she labeled as "Only Missing the Kitchen Sink." I feel like this collection is influenced by Beatrix Potter and the characters and stories she created. It is very nostalgic of childhood with the almost kid friendly knitted shoes with the adorable stars, flowers, fruits, and creatures on them. I love this collection because it is not only incredibly wearable and chic but it fits the body perfectly and the clothing all have modern silhouettes. I love the nerdy connotation of a childhood spent reading Beatrix Potter books and learning lessons from her fables.

Although I do not know who the designer of these bows are, the designer is quite ingenious with the colors, sizes, and different styles of bows one can use! Plus I know quite a few nerds who look dapper in their bow ties!

This is one of my favorite editorials! I'll probably say that a lot but this is actually one of them! This editorial is from Jalouse, or the magazine l'Officiel, which has quite a history behind it! It is really interesting about how it influenced the world with Haute Couture. My favorite quote that summarizes l'Officiel's goal is "At a time when Haute Couture - dreamt about by every women - reigned, l'Officiel let them attain the inaccessible and made their dreams come true." I love how the model is dresses in high-waisted pants (nerd style to the max), 1920s-esque accessories, and a boost of sparkle, fun retro prints, and fur!

This Spring 2009 collection is by Elizabeth & James which uses kid's toys and today's pop culture items! this brand was created by Mary Kate and Ashley Olson. The brand is Named after two of the designers' siblings, the ultra-cool womenswear echoes the pair's well documented, eclectic personal style. Find a chic blend of masculine and feminine cuts with tailored blazers, men's shirts and super-sleek pants that are sure to become wardrobe essentials.I love how they use My Little Pony, the T-rex, and the stuffed animal bunnies. It accentuates the pastel colors of the clothes, shows the youth and softness of the clothes, but all the pop culture items also are clean cut and that highlights the clean cut of the blazers! And you know Nerds love their pop culture items and action dolls so I found this collection perfectly acceptable to put in!

Couture House, Lanvin geeks it up with Lego and Pacman in their print ad campaign. Lanvin has done a magnificent job with this ad campaign; not only does it represent their brand in a unique way, but it also demonstrates a wonderful sense of creativity and artfulness. They have definitely pushed themselves creatively in a very nice direction.

This flowy dress with the soft silhouette is worn with a funny silver helmet. Oh the boys who played Dungeon & Dragons will reminisce the heady days when they played with swords and capes!

I love how the girl and how she is dressed is a bit nerdy. But I love that its matches the wallpaper! When I was little I used to obsess about making my clothes match! The pattern of the dress and the white tights look a little bit like what a 9 year old would wear to church.

An obsession with the future and the robots that come with it! Long live Star Trek and Star Wars. Live long and prosper!

Sid and Nancy, revival of grunge and punk

Hey everybody! second post! So a couple of days ago I saw the movie Sid and Nancy. It was so good! Not only was the music amazing but the fashion and style that the Sex Pistols, groupies, and followers had were amazing! I'm sure the movie sexed up how cool the clothes were but I was totally inspired! So right now I am crazy about the colors: red, black, and white, and the fabrics, patterns, and materials: lace, fur, leather, leopard, flannel, knitted, sequined. I even got some red beat up Doc Martens at the Rose Bowl flea market to satisfy my thirst for grunge and punk. I also have some zipper pumps and leopard leggings that would look good too. Anyway here are some of the pics that i choose to represent my mood for P&G (punk and grunge). Enjoy! I'm also going to the Rocky Horror Picture Show on saturday night! any thoughts on how I should dress?

First Post!!! Street Cred

Hey everybody! My name is Lex and I decided to start my blog at the beginning of sophmore year! I got the idea for this blog because I was just collecting masses of amazing photos and I think that everybody should see them! I also love writing which isn't so bad since u can write AND share photos! Anyway I adore fashion and someday want to be in the fashion industry.

Street Cred: I am starting off my blog with some photos of cool sidewalkers who have great style! They are from around the world and they all don't categorize in to one style or one fad of the moment! What's a cool theory is that you don't have to always go with the fad of the moment, these people have individual styles that look good on them but maybe aren't the latest trends!

Since I live in LA i have to say its an LA take on Gossip Girl, the leopard jacket, dress, and tights are very cute and i don't want to say preppy but just paired together makes the outfit very tame, while the red patent leather Doc Martens give this outfit a boost!

This may just be my favorite outfit ever worn by Louise Ebelle! I adore this coat more than life its self and I love how she paired it with some cool frames and a fringed bag!

Alexa Chung my fave british fashionista with the name alexa has some amazing style! I love how she keeps it simple with a classic blue blazer and then spices it up with some cool bejeweled shoes!!! (see her in Nylon magazine's October issue showing of the latest fall fashions)

Classic grey trench with a modern silhouette, a chunky necklace, and some crazy blue heels make this office outfit pop!

I know you are going to hate me for this but before I became a pro at categorizing pics I just took them from random sources and websites and blogs and completely forgot who their names are. So this great girl has her own blog and i love this very 80's outfit that she does with the oversized denim top tied at the waist with a silk scarf tied around her neck, very parisian!

This is a model either wandering the streets of Italy or France, whichever city she is in she looks tragically cool with her furry vest and classic Chanel bag.
